Victor Yee Fei CHEN is a Malaysian film producer, scriptwriter and director. He believes in bringing together ideas, talents and resources, and breathing life and creativity into stories, from script to screen. Victor appreciates working in an invigorating collaborative effort in creating original films. But mostly, he meditates on the existence of life through climbing mountains and immersing in cinema.

His directorial debut short film, "My Ba's Radio" was screened at Short Shorts Film Festival (Japan, 2017), Asian World Film Festival (USA, 2017) to name a few, before winning Best Short Film at the Mantova Lovers Film Festival (Italy, 2019) and Panasonic Digital Short Film Competition (Malaysia, 2016). "Mindframe" (directed by Andy Darrel Gomes), a short film which he produced under Transitional Cinema was awarded the Judges Honourable Mention at BMW Shorties 2022. His other producing credits include "阿嬤 Ah Ma", "INMATES" and "男孩Boys" which were all selected as the Top Ten Finalists with 13 nominations and 5 awards at BMW Shorties 2023. "Fish Balls" (directed by Anwar Johari Ho), a body horror short film co-produced and co-written by Victor Chen has its World Premiere at SeaShorts Film Festival 2024, selected in competition alongside "Ah Ma" (directed by Chew Boon Wai) and "Boys" (directed by Fabian Loo).

 

In 2024, Victor served as the Pre-Selection Committee for Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest). He was involved in the Malaysian box-office hit "Polis EVO 3" under the writers room and script panel. In 2015, he was the first runner-up of Hypp TV reality show competition "I Want To Be A Filmmaker" (Malaysia, 2015) and went on to intern at Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios for international productions such as  Netflix’s 'Marco Polo'.

Apart from filmmaking, he is actively involved in community engagements through leading UTAR Film Club as chairperson, organising Outdoor Cinema, film screening and discussion, offering workshops and talks, and mobilising youth empowerment programmes. He also pursues his aspiration as a scholar at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), in which he is involved in Virtual Reality (VR) research projects.
